How much does copywriting cost?

Everyone has a different opinion on whether you should share your copywriting rates publicly.

I’m going to be completely honest about this and put mine out here.

I do not charge by the word. I generally charge by the time each project takes. I work fast, so that’s actually really beneficial for you.

As of 2023, my daily copywriting rate is currently £350 (GBP), or $475 (USD).

If you want regular blog posts, I’m happy to charge a standard rate for these. At the moment, that’s usually £250 per blog post.

As part of our initial discussions, we’ll talk about what you need, and I’ll put together a proposal and working agreement. That will include costs, deadlines and timescales, revisions and any other expectations we might have.

What makes copywriting so expensive?

When you take your dog to the vet and pay for a 10 minute consultation, you’re getting the benefit of their years of education, all of the patients they’ve seen before, and their confidence in their skill.

Similarly, copywriting is a skill. (Thankfully, it’s usually less life-or-death than veterinary medicine!) I’ve spent years honing and perfecting my skill in health and social care writing, and when you employ me to write for you, you’re benefiting from all of those years of experience.

For the past 15 years, I’ve been writing. I’ve written blog posts, website copy, sales brochures, email marketing campaigns, social media content… the list goes on. I’ve written extensively about adult social care, health and wellbeing, cybersecurity, and lots more besides. Over time, I’ve made the mistakes and learnt the lessons. I’ve taken courses, seen the effects that my work has produced, and I think I’ve got pretty damn good.

I want my costs to reflect my time and my contribution to your organisation.

I don’t mind being asked to write to particular word counts. A blog post of around 800 words is absolutely fine, and I’ll scale my quote accordingly. But I won’t charge you extra if I write 801 words!
